So getting here was definitely a trip; it was really fast and absolutely lovely. From my perspective at least. I arrived into town on Thursday; I left Monday. For most people, it takes about a week or so to travel 3,600 miles, especially since people make stops. No, this trip was a mission. When it was my turn to drive, I went 80-95, granted that it was open road and crazy highway/freeway road driving. Now, I was not alone on this trip, I had a partner; Coleman.
Whenever we drove, we had very different experiences.
When I drove:
during the day: during the evening:
1. Sunny and gorgeous 1. Witnessed two shooting stars
2. Rainbows 2. Saw the Aurora Borealis
3. Wildlife - herds of Bison, Caribou 3. Watched a wild horse eating
4. Rarely any drivers 4. No troopers in Canada
5. No troopers in Canada 5. Clear roads
When Coleman drove:
during the day: during the evening:
1. Rain storms 1. Torrential Rain
2. Lightning and Thunder storms 2. The possibility of a tornado dropping (...no)
3. No wildlife 3. Fox crosses in front of him
4. A lot of troopers (they apparently didn't care) 4. Moose nonchalantly walks across him
5. Large porcupine basically sits in front of him
6. Doe looks and dashes across him (in fog!)
7. Drove through thick, horror movie fog
Aside from that, the initial and ending drives were the same, only, the beginning was something else. If you have recently drive the AlCan, then you are aware of the horrendous conditions of these roads. For those of you that don't, here's the breakdown:
1. Roads are unpaved for miles (kilometers if we're going by Canadian metrics, but still long)
2. Roads are uneven, like, every 3 foot had a bump or pothole...in other words, there's a possibility of
flying...it was bad...
3. Dust was so bad from the unpaved roads that it would create a cloud in which some of these clouds
were next to a cliff (there was a moment when we almost drove off of one, or ran into an opposing
vehicle)
4. There was so much construction and pilot cars! Much of our time was spent waiting for one
Other than that, I'm here! After being 4 days in, I was on set for a movie; Helicopter Mom starring Nia Vardalos and Jason Dolley. Even though I was an extra, I had tons of fun and was spoiled for my first shoot!
1. Everybody was so nice! Both cast and crew!
2. Extras would all just hangout when we were in holding. We did everything to entertain ourselves
(seriously, everything: apples to apples, sing, groove, talk, games, everything)
3. People took the time to get to know each other or at the very least their names
4. Food was AWESOME! There was always enough for seconds or thirds for both cast and crew (my
fat ass was delighted by this fact)
5. They gave us our own tent! (for like 10 sec, then they ended up taking it down)
6. I could be seen quite a bit in what they filmed (everyone had an opportunity to shine)
7. I made some awesome friends
If it weren't for my roommate, Megan Harty, I wouldn't have had this amazing opportunity! Being on set was literally like being a part of a dream; I just couldn't believe how real it was. Seeing all these actors, who I've idolized and wished I could meet, was breathtaking! Watching them film, set-up, get everyone ready, etc., was everything I've always dreamed of seeing and being a part of! Dreams do come true, but only if you fully pursue them, and have AWESOME friends like my roommate.
Sincerely,
An Asian
